If networking commands in Linux feel unfamiliar, close that gap before you go further.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Start small and concrete. Pick one repetitive task you currently do by hand, like pulling running-configs from 30 switches to check for a specific setting, and write a script that does it in under a minute instead of an afternoon. That single script is a real, quotable NetDevOps credential the moment it works.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"lever-2-cloud-networking-vpc-and-vnet-design\"><\/span><strong>Lever 2: Cloud Networking (VPC and VNet Design)<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If your organisation has any presence in AWS, Azure, or GCP, and almost every mid-to-large Indian company does now, cloud networking is the crossover skill that makes you valuable beyond the on-premise data centre.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">What this actually covers:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>VPC and VNet design.<\/strong> Subnetting, route tables, peering, and transit gateways inside AWS or Azure.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Hybrid connectivity.<\/strong> Site-to-site VPNs, ExpressRoute, and Direct Connect that link your on-premises network to the cloud without breaking security policy.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Cloud load balancing and traffic management.<\/strong> Understanding how traffic actually moves once it leaves your physical network.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Multi-cloud awareness.<\/strong> Increasingly, large Indian enterprises run workloads across more than one cloud provider, and someone has to make the networking between them coherent.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This is exactly where classic networking and DevOps culture overlap, so devops networking concepts are worth studying directly alongside cloud-specific material. The engineers who bridge on-premises and cloud networking are rare enough right now that the premium reflects genuine scarcity, not hype.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Start by rebuilding a small piece of your current network’s connectivity model inside a free-tier AWS or Azure account. It isn’t anymore, not fully. Firewalls, segmentation, and access control increasingly sit inside the network engineer’s job description, especially in regulated industries like banking, healthcare, insurance, and anything government-adjacent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">What matters here:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Firewall configuration and policy design<\/strong>, not just knowing a vendor’s product exists.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Network segmentation<\/strong>, including VLANs used for genuine security boundaries rather than just traffic separation.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Zero-trust awareness.<\/strong> You don’t need to be a security architect, but you need to understand why “trust nothing by default” is replacing perimeter-based security models, and what that means for how you design a network.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Basic log analysis and incident response<\/strong>, since network engineers are often the first people to notice something is wrong.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Cybersecurity and networking overlap more every year, and reading up on that overlap directly will save you time versus treating security as a separate discipline you’ll get to eventually.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This lever varies by industry. In banking and healthcare, it’s close to mandatory for senior roles. In a smaller product company, it might be a nice-to-have.
