Working at Accenture was in itself an ideal place to be for many people. Hence, I wasn’t looked at as someone who needed more. And to leave such a place of comfort was the challenge.

But why did I do that? Let me explain it through my journey.

I graduated with a degree in Mechanical Engineering in 2021 and joined Accenture as a Frontend Developer in 2022.

My first few months in the role made me realise how much I still had to learn. My coding fundamentals needed work, especially Data Structures and Algorithms. I wanted to understand how to build optimal solutions rather than stop once the code worked.

In 2023, I came across a Scaler post on Instagram featuring Abhimanyu Saxena. I looked up the YouTube content, attended a Masterclass, and spoke to a friend who had already completed the course. After going through all of that, I decided to join.

Getting Into the Course

When I joined Scaler, I did not know the basics of DSA.

The learning started from there. There were problems to solve, concepts to understand, and plenty of practice needed to get familiar with different approaches.

At the same time, I was working full-time at Accenture. My day would start at 9 AM and sometimes stretch till 9 PM. Scaler classes were from 10 PM to 2 AM.

It was an intense schedule. There were days of burnout and frustration, especially after I started appearing for interviews and the rejections came in.

A few months into the course, I started taking mock interviews. They gave me a better idea of where I needed to improve and helped me regain some confidence.

The resume-building session helped too. My CV went through a complete revamp, and I started getting more interview calls after that.

Subham Soni, my Scaler mentor, also played a big role in my interview preparation. When I could not solve a problem, he would push me to keep trying and would often share a small tip that helped me approach it differently.

Ayush Raj was also someone who supported me during the journey.

Rewiring the Fundamentals

The interviews started giving me a clearer picture of where I needed to improve. The mock interviews helped with that. A few months into the course, I started taking them seriously and using the feedback to prepare for the next round.

My resume needed work too. I attended a resume-building session and completely revamped my CV. After that, I started getting more interview calls.

The schedule was still demanding. My workday could stretch from 9 AM to 9 PM, followed by Scaler classes from 10 PM to 2 AM. There were days when I was exhausted and frustrated, especially when another interview ended in rejection.

But there was always something to work on before the next one. A problem I could not solve, an approach I had missed, or a topic that needed more practice.

Gradually, the fundamentals started getting stronger. With a Mechanical Engineering degree and experience as a developer at Accenture, there was already some exposure to working in tech. The focus at Scaler was helping me build the coding and problem-solving foundation I had been missing.

That process started to rewire the way I approached technical problems.

The Move to Motorola

As much as it would’ve been great, this breakthrough didn’t happen with just one interview.

After multiple attempts and rejections, I started receiving offers from a couple of companies and one of them was Fractal.

Around the same time, a Scaler alumnus referred me to Motorola Solutions.

I went through the interview process, cleared the rounds, and joined Motorola as a Software Engineer in January 2025.

And this time, the feeling was quite different from the other interviews..

There had been months of late-night classes, difficult problems, and interviews that did not work out. Then, almost alongside the Fractal offer, came the Motorola opportunity through an alumnus referral.

And that’s why I believe that this transition from Accenture to Motorola was the result of all those steps coming together.

Who Should Rewire?

When I think about my journey to become non cs software engineer, the biggest part of it was being willing to work on things I did not know.

Having a degree in Mechanical Engineering did not stop me from entering tech. Getting into a Frontend Developer role at Accenture gave me my start. But moving further meant spending time on the fundamentals that were still missing.

That took a lot of time alongside a full-time job. Work could run until 9 PM, classes continued until 2 AM, and some interviews ended in rejection.

My family supported me through that period too. They were there through the late-night classes and made sure I did not have to carry the financial burden alone.

Scaler gave me the structure, mentors, and opportunities to practise, but the effort still had to come from me.

For someone in a similar position, that is probably the part worth thinking about. A career switch can mean going back to the basics even when you already have a job and some experience. It means being comfortable with the things you do not know and giving yourself enough time to work on them.

That process rewired the way I approached learning and problem-solving.

And eventually, it took me from accenture to product company which was Motorola.
