What Students Wish They Knew Before Joining Scaler
The pain from regret hurts more than the sweet sense of accomplishment. Questions like “why didn’t I put in enough research?” or “Only if I knew what was going to happen…” crawl in our minds over and over.
And this is why we wish to help you understand everything about us!
At Scaler Academy, we value transparency and trust. We believe that none of our students should regret their choices once enrolled in our program. Hence, here are some of the aspects of our program that will give you a clear idea of what Scaler has to offer.
Expectations Vs. Reality at Scaler
We have noticed through Scaler Academy reviews that many learners sign up to our program, but are sometimes unable to grasp the depth of our program and the commitment that comes along with it.
Scaler does provide structure, mentorship, and strong career support. But it also demands discipline, consistent effort, and time commitment. Getting to know the course intensity, pacing, mentor access, and placement process will help you decide if the journey is right for you.
What Most Learners Think Before Joining?
New students often expect Scaler to be a smooth and linear path. They are of the mindset that the course would consist of clear lessons, instant mentor help, and guaranteed job outcomes after completion. (Which is what we aim for? yes)
But every step takes time; the problem usually isn’t the outcome itself, it is usually the time and discipline it takes to stick to the program. Which is exactly why so many of our students, after completion, were placed at various companies.
What Actually Surprises Students?
Alumni often share that the learning pace is tougher than imagined, time management is critical, and career outcomes are closely tied to how much effort they put in, and for many students, these commitments do seem a bit challenging.
Why are We Addressing This?
Scaler has a well-functioning system, which can give outcomes based on the efforts of the students. And as time and money are both involved, we want to make this process as understandable as possible for you.
The Most Common “I Wish I Knew” Learnings
From hundreds of alumni stories and reviews, a few common themes keep popping up:
Many students arrived with one expectation and left disheartened and thinking If only they could’ve known a few things before. Here are the top 5 misunderstandings from honest Scaler feedback that came up most often:
1. “The workload is way heavier than I expected.”
An alumnus on LinkedIn shared how their perception of Scaler as a casual upskilling program quickly changed once the assignments and pace kicked in:
“When I first joined, I thought attending live classes would be enough. I quickly realized… you’ll need to dedicate at least 2 hours every day, and more on weekends.”

2. “No Refund After 14 Days”
There are a few misconceptions about refund policies:

The harshness in tone is understandable, since we do understand that our course fees are quite a hefty sum for many. However, on the contrary, our team always ensures that students are aware of the program structure and 14-day refund policy. As for quality, you can always join our masterclass and make a judgment for yourself!
3. “Expecting Flexible Mentorship”
“Teaching is very good, but the mentor support or bonding with the mentor is not getting established.”

As we take in mentors who are industry experts, we value their time and yours. Hence, we prepare appointments consisting of dates and timings so that you have a smooth interaction and doubt-solving. The experts might not be free at all times, but they are always there to help.
4. “Why spend so much when one can learn for free?”
“I am more biased towards free learning. When you can learn for free, why do you need to spend lakhs for courses?”

That’s an interesting take, and we do get asked about this.
So why pay ₹3L + for a program?
At Scaler, we provide learning material for sure, but along with it, you get benefits like: 1:1 mentorship, capstone projects, alumni network, and many opportunities after completion of the program.
5. “You can join as a basic coder, but you will have to work hard accordingly.”
“I thought I knew the basics, but really lacked the practice of solving daily problems and case studies.”

Scaler programs are designed to be industry-ready. We have established this system, so with practice, you can accomplish complex skills by the end of our course.
Many students find this part of the course challenging, and we agree that it does get challenging with due time.
But we assure you that the end results with consistent efforts will make everything worth it.

Does Scaler Only Focus on Marketing?
To answer in short, No.
At Scaler, we are transparent about our entire system and success metrics. We have seen that there are surely places that do hefty marketing to get their sales across, Scaler doesn’t enroll students in heavy numbers, but only the ones who are selected from the selection process. While our marketing highlights outcomes such as strong placement records, personalized mentorship, and a thriving community, the journey itself requires consistent effort.
Here’s what learners should know before joining:
-
Time Commitment Matters: Progressing through Scaler takes 15 hours per week of focused effort. Live classes, projects, and problem-solving exercises are designed to help you attain skills required for high-profile companies, and surely that would require some effort.
-
Be Consistent: Showing up regularly will always beat all-nighter prep. Learners who build a weekly rhythm tend to achieve stronger results.
-
Projects & Assessments Are The Most Important: Our system is not self-paced for this very reason, that each of your assignments and projects is credible, and after completion, you acquire your learning perfectly. To move ahead, learners must clear assessments and submit projects that showcase real-world skills.
-
Mentorship Works Best with Preparation: Mentors guide, but the rest is completely on the student’s capacity. The more prepared you are, the more actionable their advice becomes. Check out: Scaler Admission Process
We mention these success stories on our page to motivate our students and give a real picture of the outcomes after the completion of our program. But it’s equally important for every student to come in with their research.
How Students Can Prepare Better Before Joining?
If you’re considering Scaler, a little preparation before enrolling can make the journey smoother and a little less challenging. Many learners find that setting the right expectations and building habits in advance helps them get the most out of the program. Here are a few steps you can take:
- Be Prepared with Basics: Whether you choose the Data Science & ML (DSML) track or the Full Stack program, having a strong grasp of fundamental coding concepts (loops, recursion, OOPs) will surely help you. Having a basic understanding of these concepts can help you understand the course material and explanation better. Also, even if you are someone having no knowledge of coding, Scaler does provide beginner batches that start from the very basics. So do not worry, if it’s your first time exploring.
- Make a Separate Time for Lectures: Scaler requires about 12–15 hours a week. Before joining, map out fixed slots from your daily routine for live classes, practice, and projects. Learners who can maintain their schedules early tend to adapt better.
- Prepare Questions for Mentors: Mentors at Scaler can help you with any queries. To make the most of it, come prepared with doubts or career-related queries. These interactions can help you form the perfect steps to reach your goals.
- Choose the Right Track Wisely: Take time to evaluate whether DSML or Full Stack matches your career goals. For those unsure, the prep-mode option allows you to build fundamentals first, while direct entry works for learners with prior experience.
- Read Refund and Job Guarantee Terms Carefully: Scaler’s refund and placement policies are transparent, but it’s best to review the fine print on Course Pages and Refund Policy beforehand. This ensures you’re clear on eligibility and expectations. Preparing well before you join not only reduces stress but also helps you take advantage of Scaler’s mentorship, projects, and community right from day one.
FAQs
We have noticed while exploring Scaler Academy reviews that many students come across the same doubts, but the majority of them have a different experience from what they expected. To make your doubts clearer, here are the most common questions and clear answers straight from Scaler’s process.
For more details, you can always check our Admissions FAQ Page or explore our Course Pages.
Do I need prior coding experience to join Scaler?
Not necessarily. Scaler offers two entry routes: Prep-Mode (for those from non-CS or beginner backgrounds) and Direct Entry (for those with prior coding experience). If you’re new, you’ll spend extra time on fundamentals before getting into advanced problem-solving.
We are here to help from the beginning, but it is always advisable to brush up on basic programming concepts (loops, arrays, functions) before starting for a smoother journey.
What happens if I fall behind the pace?
Scaler’s curriculum is undoubtedly rigorous, and you are required to spend approximately 15 hours a week; falling behind is possible. But there are catch-up sessions, recordings, and mentor support to help you realign.
Is the job guarantee automatic?
Not really, we provide career guidance and help with resources in every way possible, but getting the job completely depends on the candidate. By completing assignments, attending sessions, passing assessments, and actively applying for opportunities, most of our students have seen substantial growth in their careers. Scaler Academy will always present multiple opportunities, but it is always up to the student to make the most out of it.
Are Scaler mentors available on weekends?
Mentorship sessions are scheduled primarily on weekdays, but some mentors may offer weekend slots depending on availability. You can coordinate directly with your assigned mentor for flexibility.
Can I change tracks mid-course?
Yes, Scaler allows switching between tracks, such as if you want to switch Data Science & ML over Full Stack Development, in the early phase of the program. However, once you’re deeper into the curriculum, switching becomes harder as it disrupts progress.
Is Scaler the Right Choice for You?
If you’ve read this far, you already know that Scaler doesn’t make its program transactional, such as paying 3L+ for a 30L package job. The program is a learning and networking space, and it works when you’re completely ready to put in your time and dedication. From classes to mentorship and peer learning, Scaler offers a strong ecosystem. But the truth is, outcomes depend heavily on your effort.
Most of the regrets you see in Scaler Academy reviews usually come down to mismatched expectations. Learners who didn’t brush up on basics, couldn’t keep up with the schedule, or assumed the job guarantee was automatic, often feel disappointed. On the other hand, those who blocked time, asked questions, and treated this like a serious commitment saw real results.
So, is Scaler worth it? Yes.
If you’re clear about what you’re signing up for. If you’re ready to commit 10-15 hours a week, take feedback seriously, and engage with mentors, then Scaler can give you a medium for a great career push.
